Before Reading
Spinocerebellar degeneration
• A disease in which the spinal cord and cerebellum
degenerate. In Jan’s case, there is miscommunication
between the nervous system and the muscular system.
Geiger counter click
• a device that detects radiation, and when radiation is
present it makes a clicking noise
Stroke
• Caused by a lack of oxygen in the brain; this lack of
oxygen kills neurons, which causes that part of the brain
to stop functioning
