Chapter 3: Cells Test Review
1. Review and be able to complete the functions of organelles.
Close attention to: lysosomes, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic
reticulum(rough/smooth), Nucleolus, Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Cytoskeleton
(microtubules, microfilaments), ribosomes, cilia and flagella:
2. The Plasma(cell) Membrane: What is the fluid mosaic model?, What are the
functions of the following structures: Channel and marker proteins, cholesterol,
phospholipids(phosphates and lipids), phospholipid Bilayer, Selectively Permeable.
3. Be able to identify/draw/label diagram of plasma (cell) membrane: phospholipids
(phosphate head, lipid tails), which parts of phospholipid is hydrophilic or
hydrophobic, cholesterols, channel and marker proteins.
4. What are the microvilli, where are they found, function?
5. List 4 phases of Mitosis in sequence: 1st phase-last phase. Be able to identify the
phase of mitosis when given a cell drawing.
6. Know and able to describe how occurs: diffusion, osmosis, exocytosis, endocytosis?
7. Compare and contrast active and passive transport.
8. Define: hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic solutions. Where is the concentration of
water the greatest? Molecules? Which direction will water move? Molecules
(solutes)?
9. Protein synthesis – know roles of tRNA, mRNA, transcription, translation.

Briefly explain name and how works. Answer must have both and convey complete
understanding for credit..
