Describe Griffith’s experiment leading to the discovery of transformation. Explain how Avery’s
experiment concludes that DNA is the molecule of heredity. Given a diagram of these
experiments, predict whether the mice subjects will live or die. How is transformation important
today for Genetic Engineering work?

Explain the Hershey-Chase experiment with radioactivity, viruses and bacteria that helped show
that DNA is the molecule of heredity.
3.
Explain Watson and Crick’s double helix model for the structure of DNA. Identify other
scientists and their work that Watson and Crick used to construct their model.
4.
Explain how Watson and Crick’s model predicted a method for DNA replication.
5.
Outline the steps in the process of DNA replication. Which components of DNA replication are
also used with PCR?
6.
Explain how the triplet code of DNA/mRNA works.
7.
Given a sequence of bases on either DNA or mRNA predict the sequence of amino acids that
would be found in the protein made from this gene using a table of mRNA codons and amino
acids.

Explain what is meant by “recombinant DNA.”
