Cell Analogy Project Assignment: 1. Choose either a plant cell or animal cell. Next choose something to compare it to. Our example was a fast food restaurant. This will be your analogy as well as the title of your poster. Our example “ An animal cell is like a fast food restaurant”. Check One __ Animal __ Plant “A _____________ cell is like a __________________________” 2. Choose 10 organelles from the list below and continue to explain your selected analogy for each one. The comparison should match the actual cell part function and make sense within your analogy. Use the space below to expand your analogy for the organelles you select. Keep in mind: ● A good poster will have the cell as the central image and its parts that function together to enable the cell to grow, make energy, dispose of waste, make proteins, etc. The visuals will help to explain the analogy. ● A good powerpoint will have pictures of both the organelle and the analogy. ● Organelles – pick ten (On the line, explain the role of the organelle in your analogy Put a check mark if you choose to use this organelle Organelle Cell Wall Endoplasmic Reticulum Cell Membrane Ribosomes Nucleus Nucleolus Cytoplasm Lysosome Chloroplast Analogy and explanation Vacuole Mitochondria Golgi Body 3. Finally you will create a poster or a powerpoint that includes: a. drawings or pictures of the 10 organelles b. a brief explanation of the actual function of the organelle c. an explanation of the relationship between the organelle and d. a title which shares your analogy with your audience your analogy. Requirements -Includes 10 organelles -Includes 10 organelles -Includes 8-9 organelles -Includes fewer than 7 organelles -10 organelles clearly represent comparisons in the chosen analogy and is represented by visuals -8-9 organelles clearly represent comparisons in the chosen analogy and is represented by visuals -7 or fewer organelles clearly represent comparisons in the chosen analogy and is represented by visuals -fewer than half of the organelles clearly represent comparisons in the chosen analogy and is represented by visuals -choice of cell parts is appropriate to the type of cell -choice of cell parts is not appropriate to the type of cell -choice of cell parts is appropriate to the type of cell Content Aesthetics -choice of cell parts is appropriate to the type of cell 15 points 12 points 11 points 10 points -Function of 10 cell parts are explained correctly -Function of 8-9 cell parts are explained correctly -7 or fewer cell parts are explained correctly -Fewer than half of the cell parts are explained correctly -Relationship between each analogy and organelle function concisely and clearly explained -Relationship between 8-9 analogy and cell function is clearly explained -Relationship between 7 or fewer analogies and cell parts is clearly explained - Relationship between fewer than half of the analogies and cell parts are clearly explained 20 points 18 points 15 points -Project layout is creative, organized, neat and appealing -Project layout is creative, organized and neat. It helps the reader understand cell parts and function Project layout is somewhat organized. Neatness is lacking Project layout is messy, unorganized, and does not help the reader understand cell parts 5 points 3 points -Visual design helps reader clearly understand cell parts and function 10 points 8 points 13 points
