Cell Analogy Project: Due December 17th
An analogy is a comparison of two things. You are going to choose a plant or animal cell. You will be
comparing the cell to a cartoon, videogame, or movie (Harry Potter is off limits). You must be able to explain
why each structure is like that organelle in function. The following organelles must be included in your
project:
1. Nucleus
2. Nucleolus
3. Ribosomes
4. Cell membrane
5. Cytoskeleton
6. Endoplasmic reticulum
7. Golgi Apparatus/Complex
8. Mitochondria
9. Cytoplasm (cytosol)
10. Microtubules (centrosome)
11. Lysosomes/Peroxizomes*
12. Vesicles
13. Flagella or Cilia
14. Lysosome
15. Centrioles
16. Cell wall*
17. Chloroplasts*
18. Central Vacuole*
 In both Plant and Animal cells
 Animal cells only
* Plant cells only
LATE PROJECTS will be 20 points off per day!!!
There will be NO class time to work on this project - you must do this at home. Please Note “I
Google”, therefore if your project is found online and copied, you will receive a “0” along with a
referral for plagiarizing.
Your project has TWO parts:
1. Visual representation: You are going to create an analogy of a cell.
a. You may create a 3-D model or a poster (at least 12 X 14) of the cartoon, videogame, or movie.
b. This must be your own work, done by hand
c. Each part must be visible and clearly labeled with both the real name of the object and the
compared organelle.
d. It must be neat, clear, and in color.
e. If you create a model, it must not fall apart when gently handled.
2. The information: You are going to write one introductory paragraph, explaining why you chose the
analogy you chose. Then you will label each analogy to organelle with a brief statement (in order to
demonstrate the relationship/analogy between the two)
Rubric for Grading the Cell Analogy Project:
Project Description
Point Value
Project is neat, on time, original, and complete
20
Model or poster is drawn neatly and organelles
are labeled properly
10
All 18 organelles represented and compared
correctly on model or poster
20
Report has a proper title page
5
Introductory paragraph included
5
Information for all organelle are included and
relationship is established
