Cell City Project – You are the Designer! Due Date: Monday 12/21/2015 Assignment: Floating around in the cytoplasm of a cell are small structures called organelles. Like the organs in your own body, each one carries out a specific function necessary for the cell to survive. In order to survive, the cell must be able to interact with its surroundings, use energy, produce materials and manage waste. You will create a poster that compares a living
plant
cell and its organelles to a city, school, factory, ballpark, etc. The place you choose must use energy, produce substances and manage waste
. The organelles will represent the parts of your place that carry out these processes. Your poster must include a creative title with the word “cell” somewhere in it. It must have the shape of a plant cell. All of the parts of the “city” should be labeled with the cell part and the analogy you chose to represent it. Your poster must be colorful, neat and creative. It should be done on a piece of
14” by 22” poster board or trifold
. Have fun designing your “cell city.” Be sure to include all of the organelles listed on the attached sheet and the appropriate analogies. Procedure: _____Step 1: Select your analogy. (A cell is like a ______________) _____Step 2: Complete the cell city analogy worksheet _____Step 3: Make a rough draft of your poster idea (should have the shape of a plant cell) _____Step 4: Create your poster on 14” by 22” poster board or trifold (colorful, neat and creative) _____Step 5: Label your poster with the cell part and analogy (put parentheses around the cell part) _____Step 6: Select a creative title (the word “cell” is in the title) _____Step 7: Attach the completed cell city analogy worksheet and grading rubric to your poster _____Step 8: All team members should be prepared to talk about their project. We will be having a “poster session” in class on the due date. Please note that this project will be started during class time but must be completed at home. A grading rubric is attached. This project will be worth 75 points and is your unit assessment for cells (instead of a test). Do your best and please ask for any help when needed. Please complete the following to let me know you understand the requirements for this Cell City project.
