Cell Analogy Project
“It takes 3 million cells to cover the head of a pin, but only one great cell project to cover a large part of
your Biology grade!” Due Friday, October 14th.
Directions:
1. Draw an animal cell on an unlined sheet of paper. Color the organelles with colored pencils.
Include at least 10 of the following structures, you may add 2 additional organelles (structures)
for extra credit.
a. Cell membrane
b. Nuclear envelope
c. Nucleus
d. Nucleolus
e. Mitochondria
f. Golgi apparatus
g. Rough endoplasmic reticulum
h. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
i. Lysosome
j. Ribosome
k. Vacuole
l. Chromosomes (DNA)
m. Cytoskeleton
n. Cytoplasm
2. Complete an analogy for the structures you chose. Make sure you include the function of your
structure and the everyday object. Ex. The nucleus is like a helmet, the nucleus protects the
DNA like a helmet protects the head. I need to check your analogies before you get your
poster paper for the completed project.
3. Put the drawing of your cell in the middle of your poster, using a ruler draw a line from the
structures in your cell to the outside where your analogies will be placed. You must have a
picture of your everyday item above your analogy. Please make sure your analogies are written
nicely and in ink. You may type your analogies if you so choose (this would have to be done at
home).
Grading:
Each analogy is worth 2 points, picture of everyday item 1 point, and cell drawing 5 points. Following
directions and neatness, 5 points for a total of 40 points. Possible 4 points extra credit.
A= 40-36
B=35-32
C=31-28
D=27-24
