CELL ORGANELLE ANALOGY PROJECT Using the diagrams from your notebook, you will create a ½ poster-sized drawing of an animal or plant cell and label its organelles (see details below). Next to each label (organelle) you will provide a picture and your analogy to the cell part. You must explain how your analogy relates to the organelle’s function. Be creative! Example: a closet is like a vacuole because both vacuoles and closets store materials (think of the factory we used in class---You cannot do a factory!!!!). You are required to complete this project independently. The 10 required cell parts are: vacuole mitochondria Golgi apparatus ribosomes cell membrane Endoplasmic Recticulum lysosome cytoplasm For Animal cells only: For Plant cells only: nucleus nucleolus Cilia or Flagella; centrioles; lysosomes Chloroplasts and Cell Wall Categories & Points: Cell is hand-drawn (May be printed pictures but MUST be in color) and colored on poster board. The drawing itself should be no less than 12in. by 12in. (25 points) Title that describes the type of cell (animal or plant) (5 points) Colorful and neat (10 points) All 10 cell parts are labeled correctly and analogies are clear and concise---Example: Guards are like the cell memberane because they decided what enters and leaves (45 points) All 10 cell parts are accompanied by an image of the analogy (10 points) A straight line connects each part of your hand-drawn cell to a location containing three things: the organelle name, analogy, and image. (5 points) Grading of the above will be based on the fact that: Analogies are in complete sentences, well-written and creative. The textbook/class analogies are not allowed. All analogies relate to the FUNCTION (i.e. “job”) of the cell part Total points possible for this project: 100 POINTS! (Lab category) Posters are due at the beginning of class Friday, October 21st. Use the chart below to plot out your analogy for each organelle Organelle vacuole ribosomes lysosomes cell membrane Golgi Apparatus cytoplasm nucleus nucleolus endoplasmic reticulum (ER) mitochondria Cilia or Flagella (ANIMALS ONLY) Centrioles (ANIMAL ONLY) Chloroplasts (PLANTS ONLY) Cell Wall (PLANTS ONLY) Analogy
