Cell Analogy Project
Instructions:
Cells, the basic units of life, are often compared to pizza parlors, factories, cities, schools and so forth. In this project, you
will need to make analogies to compare the function of the plant cell to the part and functions of an entire city. To
accomplish this, you must complete the following tasks:
Task I: Create analogies between a plant cell’s parts and a city’s (or other) parts by completing the Cell Analogy
Worksheet. (This is a planning guide for your project.)
A MUST: When making the analogies between your cell and your city (or other), the FUNCTIONS of the city part and cell
part must match, not the appearance!
Task II: Draw, make a model, create a glogster or other pre-approved item of your cell city (or other). This drawing, etc.
must be neat and turned in in final draft form. You must label both the part in the cell city (or other) and the cell part
that’s represented. Your analogy must be written/typed/etc. on your drawing/model/etc. for assessment purposes.
Cell Analogies Grading
Title page: You must have a title page that tells your audience the theme of your analogies (see example) 5 pts
Each page: Organelle name with function listed. The name of the item that you will compare and your analogy (see
example). Picture of the organelle & a picture of the part in which you are comparing. 5 pts per “page”.
Total points possible: 50
