Design an analogy for a cell that includes items analogous of cell structure and function. The analogy must include enough parts to represent all of the organelles and their functions. You must also be able to explain why you have chosen each part to represent each organelle. First choose whether you will represent a plant or an animal cell. This is a tour of your cell analogy. Start by explaining what you have chosen to be your cell. Then explain each organelle representation and WHY you made that item represent that particular organelle. You need to represent at least 14 cell structures. Be sure to include explanations for all cell parts in this section. In your paragraph, underline each cell part represented. By the end of the paragraph you should have at least 14 parts underlined. This paragraph should be attached to the back of your poster. Example format: I have chosen [what represents your cell] to represent my cell. [What represents your cell] represents a(n) plant/animal cell. The [part of your analogy] represents the nucleus because [reason why that part represents the nucleus]. The [part of your analogy] represents the plasma membrane because [reason why that part represents the plasma membrane]. …etc… Part 3: Illustrate your analogy What fun is a cell analogy if you are just writing about it? Now it’s time to get out your crayons and illustrate your cell analogy. Draw what represents your cell and all of the parts on/in it. Clearly label each part, writing the item and the cell part that it represents. You’re drawing on poster paper. Poster paper will be provided in class, but you may also use your own poster-board if you choose.
