Cell Analogy Project Name: Period: Introduction: An analogy is a comparison between two objects showing how they are similar. Cells are very complex structures that have a high degree of internal organization. This level of organization is found in many ordinary objects and scenarios in your everyday life. Purpose: Recognize one of these objects or scenarios and compare the similarities to the cell in the form of an analogy. Assignment: Create a working analogy for a cell and its internal components. This is an individual project. Requirements: The analogy must include the following cellular components: Nucleus Ribosomes Proteins Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi Apparatus Cell Membrane and Cell Wall Mitochondria and Chloroplasts Cytoplasm Vacuoles Method: There are two ways to earn full credit for this assignment. You only have to do one of them. 1. Drawing and Typed Explanation: Create an original drawing of your cell analogy. (You could also build a 3D model). All structures need to be labeled with their actual name and the name of their cellular counterpart. (For Example: label a fence with the words: fence and cell membrane.) Written explanation of your analogy. This will describe how the overall analogy works and should include individual analogies for all the organelles listed above. The write-up should be at least one page. (Double spaced and 12 pt. font) 2. PowerPoint Presentation: Create a PowerPoint presentation to explain your cell analogy. Find a picture of a cell and label the structures with both their actual name and the analogous name. Include slides that have pictures of each analogous structure, with a short explanation of how the structure works in the analogy. Save to a flash drive.
