Cell City Project of: Due Date: __________________ Assignment: Floating around in the cytoplasm of a cell are small structures called organelles. Like the organs in your own body, each one carries out a specific function necessary for the cell to survive. In order to survive, the cell must be able to interact with its surroundings, use energy, produce materials and manage waste. You will create a poster that compares a living plant cell and its organelles to a city. The organelles will represent the parts of your place that carry out these processes; use energy, produce substances and manage waste. Make sure to make the organelles and the place in the city that you chose as the analogy resemble one another. All of the parts of the “city” should be labeled with the cell part and the analogy you chose to represent it (put parentheses around the cell part). Your poster must be colourful, neat and creative. Be sure to include all of the organelles listed on the attached sheet and make sure that the analogies make sense and represent the function of the organelle well Procedure: _____Step 1: Select your city analogy. (The cell is like _______________) _____Step 2: Complete the cell city analogy worksheet _____Step 3: Make a rough draft of your poster idea (shape of a plant cell) _____Step 4: Create your poster (colourful, neat and creative) _____Step 5: Label your poster with the cell part and make sure your cell part and analogy take on a combined look _____Step 6: Select a creative title (the word “cell” is in the title) _____Step 7: Attach the completed cell city analogy worksheet and grading rubric to your poster Jobs include: drawing, organization, final copy of analogies on sheet, rough draft, generating ideas, colouring, final construction, aesthetics How will you divide the work? What is your responsibility?
