3-D Cell Model Project HAVE FUN LEARNING ABOUT CELLS & BE CREATIVE!!! Cells are complex structures filled with many parts called organelles, which perform the functions organisms depend upon to live and develop. Each organelle in a cell is structurally adapted to perform Its important job so all the organelles can work together interdependently. In order for you to better understand cells and their parts, you will be making a three-dimensional model of either a plant or animal cell. CELL MODELS WILL BE DUE: __________________ Directions for creating the model 1) You may choose to make your cell model out of any materials that will effectively represent each of the organelles or parts of the cell. Materials may be edible (such as foods), non-edible (anything that is safe and appropriate for school), or a combination of both edible and non-edible items. Your cell model must be large enough to see clearly, at least 20 cm across, and should be 3-dimensional (not flat). NOTE: BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN’S PERMISSION FOR THE MATERIALS YOU USE. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY NEW MATERIALS FOR THIS PROJECT. BE CREATIVE AND USE ITEMS YOU ALREADY HAVE AT HOME. NO BALLOONS Or PEANUTS / ANY KIND OF NUT because of allergies. 2) Your cell model should include the following organelles/parts and should resemble the actual organelles/parts that they represent: Be sure to include the following organelles… Animal Cell 1. Cell Membrane 2. Nucleus 3. Endoplasmic Reticulum 4. Ribosomes 5. Lysosomes Plant Cell 6. 7. 8. 9. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Mitochondria Vacuoles Golgi Bodies Cytoplasm Cell Membrane Nucleus Endoplasmic Reticulum Ribosomes Lysosomes Mitochondria 7. Central Vacuole 8. Golgi Bodies 9. Cytoplasm 10. *Cell Wall 11. *Chloroplasts (Note: For the plant cell, make sure that it is in a rectangular or box-like shape & includes the two additional organelles. You may also earn up to 2 points extra credit for creating the plant cell model) Written Requirements 1. Organelle/Parts Key You must include a key that has the following: Titles (plant or animal cell), Names each cell part, Explain the function of each organelle / part, (see p. 20-24 in your text) Indicates which item on the model represents each organelle/part using a number, flag etc. if needed The key must be typed or printed neatly in colored pencil, marker or typed on computer paper, construction paper or poster paper. NOT ON NOTEBOOK PAPER!!! Clearly label on your key if you made an animal cell or a plant cell. Lastly, put your name and hour at the top of your key.
