Organelle Matching Captures and stores the sun’s energy in plants to make sugar through photosynthesis. Houses DNA, the directions for everything the cell does Where proteins are made. (Protein synthesis) Breaks down sugar molecules into energy through cellular respiration. Modifies, stores and packages proteins into secretory vesicles to be transported out of the cell. Uses enzymes to break down larger food, waste and old cell parts into smaller molecules. Store water and other materials needed by the cell. (Larger in plant cells where it also aids in structure.) Rigid, strong and stiff outer layer that provides protection and support (to grow tall) for plants and bacteria. Network of tubes or membranes that carries or transports proteins and other materials through the cell. Long tail-like structure for cell locomotion in some bacterial and animal cells. Short hairs surrounding some animal and bacterial cells that are used for movement. Jelly-like substance filling intracellular space that provides support for the organelles. Semipermeable boundary between intracellular & extracellular environments that controls movement of materials in/out of the cell. Name ____________________ Organelle Matching Cut out each of the organelle functions and paste them in the correct locations on the chart. Use pages 55-66 in your Biology book for help.
