Cell parts:
p.111 of text book.
Cell wall
Surrounds the cell membrane and protects
cell. Adds stiffness to cell. Plant cells have a
cell wall and cell membrane. (Animals only
have a cell membrane.)
cell membrane
Surrounds and protects the cell. Lets some
substances in or out.
nucleus
The control center of the cell. Holds DNA.
cytoplasm
Jelly-like material that fills up the cell.
organelles
“Small organs.” Structures in the cell that do
different jobs for the cell.
chloroplast
An organelle that holds chlorophyll in plant
cells or autotrophs (green)
vacuole
A storage area for food and wastes.
mitochondria
Uses food and oxygen to make energy.
Tissues
Groups of similar cells that perform a specific
function. Ex: skin tissue, heart tissue.
cellulose
a chemical that makes the cell wall rigid
chlorophyll
the chemical that helps with photosynthesis.
How is a cell like a factory?
