CELL-A-BRATION
Currently, we are studying the cell theory. To help us learn about cells, students are asked to complete ONE of the
following assignments. Depending on the choice of the project, students may work solo or have up to two partners. Use
your own words for all definitions. Do not copy straight out of the book.
Project Due Date: ____________________
3-D Cell Model
(Individual)
Points Possible: 100 points
Presentation: 25
Creativity & Neatness: 25
Content & Accuracy: 25
Following Directions: 25
Create a cell model. The cell must be a plant or animal cell. It must be 3-D! If your cell is an animal cell, be sure to
include all the following organelles: cell membrane, nucleus, nuclear membranes, pores, nucleolus and DNA (chromatin),
mitochondria, lysosomes, golgi bodies, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticula, ribosomes, cytoplasm, cilia or flagellum (choose one)
and centrioles. If your cell is a plant cell you must also include the cell wall and the chloroplasts. Plant cells do not have
centrioles, cilia, flagellum and fewer lysosomes. Your cell must have its organelles labeled and you must also attach a
separate list of all the organelles and a description of their function. Use your own words for all definitions. Your cell
must be at least 25 cm (about 8 inches) in diameter and must not contain ANYTHING that will spoil. (No jello!)
*If the cell model is a cake, make sure it is all edible and that you bring plates & forks.
Research Paper
(Individual)
Write a 3-page essay-type paper, using your own words, on cell structures, functions, and the cell theory. At least three
picture drawings or computer graphics of the cell must be included. A bibliography of at least three sources must be
provided. * See Ms. Nguyen for the proper bibliography format.
Class Lesson
(1-3 students)
Teach an interesting and engaging lesson to the class on cells. Write lesson plans for and present a 10-minute lesson on
either plant or animal cells. The lesson must have some visual presentations. An actual plan must be presented to Ms.
Nguyen in advance showing that the lesson was thought out.
Audio-Visual Presentation (1-2 students)
Create an audio-visual presentation. This should be an interactive and interesting presentation. This can be completed
using PowerPoint slides, computer-generated images and text, or a video. The presentation must feature both plant &
animal cells, all organelles and functions, and the cell theory. Include some interesting facts as well. Minimum 8 frames.
Song/musical Presentation
(1-3 students)
Create and or rewrite a song regarding the cell theory, cell functions, and cell structures. This song must be performed
in class, shown on a video or listened to on the radio. The words of the songs must be made into a transparency or you
need enough copies for the whole class.
Cell Structure Images
(Individual)
Create 2 hand-drawn diagrams of a plant cell AND an animal cell. The diagram must be in color and must have ALL cell
structures properly labeled. Additionally, the cell structures and their functions must also be included. The images are
to be presented on material poster size paper and NOT on a regular 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper.
Cell Game
(1-2 students)
Create a game or rewrite a well-known game. The game must teach the players about the cell theory, cell structures and
functions. The game rules & instructions to play must be clearly stated on another piece of paper. (You need at least 20
Question cards.) All items needed to play the game must also be made. The game board should be colorful.
