Key
Define each cell organelle and color it the color indicated below it.
Cell Membrane – The semipermeable membrane that
surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell.
Cytoplasm – The jelly-like material that fills a cell.
Nucleus – The brain or command center of the cell.
It contains the DNA of the cell.
Nucleolus – The round body located inside of the
nucleus.
Nuclear Membrane – A membrane that surrounds the
nucleolus.
Mitochondria – The powerhouse of the cell. It is
where the cell gets its energy from.
Endoplasmic Reticulum – A network of membranes found
Plants and animals share: Cell membrane,
cytoplasm, nucleus, nucleolus, nuclear
membrane, mitochondria, endoplasmic
reticulum, ribosomes, and golgi apparatus, and
lysosomes
Plants only have: Cell wall, large vacuoles, and
chloroplasts
throughout the cell attached to the nucleus.
Ribosomes – Ribosomes are the protein builders of the
cell.
Golgi Apparatus- Packages up the proteins for the cell
to use.
Lysosomes - The recycling and disposal center of the
cell.
Vacuoles – A sac inside of plants and animals that
stores water. Plants have large vacuoles.
Cell Wall – The rigid outermost cell layer. The cell
wall is found in plants, not animals. It is made
out of cellulose and is used for structure and to
protect the plant.
Chloroplast –The place where photosynthesis takes
place in a plant. It is also responsible for the
green color of plants. It is only found in plants.
