Cell Model Project Ms. Piccolo’s Biology Class You will make a three-dimensional model of a cell. Your model must accurately represent the cell parts by structure and function. Use materials that you have at home or materials provided by your teacher. A list of ideas for materials is provided on the next page as well as ideas for the structure of the cell model itself. You will choose either a plant cell (13 parts) or an animal cell (11 parts) and construct your cell model accordingly. The following structures must be clearly labeled on the model. You can label by name or by number with an attached key. Be sure to fill in the attached chart as well. Structures: Cell Membrane Nucleus Nucleolus Cytoplasm Nuclear Envelope Mitochondria Golgi Complex Smooth and Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Ribosomes Lysosomes (animal cell) Chloroplasts (plant cell) Cell Wall (plant cell) Vacuoles (plant cell) All parts of the cell must use a different material or you can use a theme such as use only candy or clay. Please have an approved theme before starting. Use the cell diagrams in your text and handouts, or use the Internet to make sure you know how to assemble your cell and where to place the cell structures. If you need help, ASK!!! You are to complete this project on your own time by Tuesday, December 15th. LATE PROJECTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER 2 DAYS of the original due date! If you are absent on the due date, make sure you make arrangements with someone to get it to me by 3:15pm that day. Better yet, turn it in a few days early. There is NO excuse for waiting until the last minute. Grading: All appropriate structures are present and labeled properly 70 Creativity (originality with materials, overall structure idea) 20 Neatness (No excess glue, paper neatly trimmed, no perishable foods) 10 TOTAL IDEAS FOR STRUCTURE The supporting structure can be made from the following: Large cut Styrofoam ball Shoebox Large plastic bowl Poster board or cardboard Labeling can be done with toothpicks and a little piece of paper or numbering and having a key with their names next to the project The organelles may be created using the following: Pipe cleaners Hard candy of any kind Pasta Foam Construction paper Colored sand/sugar Beads Fabric String/hemp/gimp Bottle caps Small rocks/acorns/twigs Cotton balls/cotton swabs Other craft materials 100 Name: ___________________________________ Cell Structure Material Used Period: ___________ Reason you matched them together Cell Project Grade Sheet Student Name: Criteria All required structures are present and labeled correctly Creativity- different materials used or themed model, uniqueness Neatness- good solid condition with no excess glue or messy presentation Total Date submitted: Points Possible Period: Points Earned 70 20 10 100 Comments: Cell Project Grade Sheet Student Name: Criteria All required structures are present and labeled correctly Creativity- different materials used or themed model, uniqueness Neatness- good solid condition with no excess glue or messy presentation Total Comments: Date submitted: Points Possible 70 20 10 100 Period: Points Earned
