Heart Model Project
Objective:
Students will create a dimensional model of the heart. All parts of the heart must be clearly
labeled. These parts include left atrium, left ventricle, right atrium, right ventricle, the
septum, and all valves. Students must show what the blood looks like in the blood vessels and
the chambers of the heart (red = oxygen-rich, blue = oxygen-poor). There also must be a display
of arrows representing the flow of the blood.

Model or molding clay
Clear tubes
Blue and red yarn
Paint
Permanent markers
Toothpick for labeling parts
Pipe cleaners
Egg cartons
Toilet paper rolls

Content
The content of the model thoroughly covers one
learning goal or touches on all five.
Composition
The entire model is 3-dimensional (not flat) and
made from a variety of materials. For sanitary
reasons, models cannot be made out of food.
The model is constructed solely by the student
and is not a pre-made kit or other structure.
Labeling
All components of the model are labeled either
directly on the model or on a diagram of the
model.
Realism
All components of the model are realistic in their
appearance as much as possible with regard to
shape, color, etc..
