The Case Of The Damaged Cell The Story Of A Cell That Needs Fixing Two Problems To Solve 1. The cell has a small worn out section in the membrane. 2. It also has very worn out mitochondria. Nutrients Necessary For Operation: Save Cell AMINO ACIDS from the breakdown of proteins FATTY ACIDS from the breakdown of fats GLUCOSE from the breakdown of carbohydrates AMINO ACID GLUCOSE FATTY ACID Operation: Save Cell Phase: 1 The glucose would go to the mitochondria to produce the high-energy molecule ATP. ATP will provide enough energy for the actions needed for the repair of the cell. GLUCOSE SAVES THE DAY! Operation: Save Cell Phase: 2 The badly damaged mitochondria cannot be repaired. Therefore, LYSOSOMES need to be called in. The lysosomes are organelles that contain digestive enzymes that destroy worn out or damaged organelles. The damaged mitochondria is enclosed in a vesicle. The lysosmes bump into these vesicles and pour enzymes into them. Useful amino acids and fatty acids are returned to the cytoplasm and waste particles are removed from the cell. Lysosomes also digest food particles, and foreign invaders. The cell can make new organelles, like mitochondria. Operation: Save Cell Phase: 3 Now, we repair the hole in the cell membrane. The membrane is made of lipids with protein channels. The NUCLEUS is a large organelle that is responsible for controlling all the activities of the cell. It contains DNA, a very big molecule that cannot got out of the nucleus. The DNA holds all the ‘blueprints’ for all the activities. DNA can’t give away the blueprints so it makes a copy of a blueprint to leave the nucleus. The nucleolus is the organelle that begins the formation of the ribosome. Ribosome are the smallest organelles. They are not membrane bound. Ribosome are either floating free or attached to the ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM. Ribosome make proteins. The ribosome that float make fat. The cell membrane needs proteins and fats to repair its broken part. The blueprint is carried out of the nucleus. The ribosome on the ER make the protein, fats, and other materials. The message moves by the ER. The cell is now ready to continue the normal functions of the cell. OPERATION: SAVE CELL STATUS: COMPLETE THE END WE SAVED THE CELL!
