CELL CITY PROJECT
GOAL: Create a blueprint, map, paper Pop-up or 3-D model that:
 Shows metaphors comparing each of the organelles in a cell to other
structures in a city (or theme park, store, school , factory etc.)
o (example: cell membrane = city limits)
 Includes each of the organelles from the Organelle List below
o Organelles must be clearly labeled
o Complete the Cell City Key to identify the connection
between your metaphors and the function of the organelles
o Remember: A Plant City* has a cell wall, chloroplasts, and
large vacuoles - An Animal City does not.
 BE CREATIVE! A cell is also like a theme park, factory, school, store and much more…

CATEGORY
The city is given a descriptive name and labeled

Creative, interesting and well-planned product
Craftsmanship, neatness
60
Colorful with neat labels or color coding
(Use at least four different colors)
All organelles from the Organelle List below are included and
clearly labeled (example: cell membrane = city limits)

Cell City Key is completed and clearly explains the connection
between the metaphors and organelle functions
Appropriate metaphors are used to describe the functions of each
organelle.
