Parts of a Cell
A- nucleus -directs all cell activities
N -the nucleolus makes ribosomes
L -chromatin contains DNA (genes)
M -the nuclear membrane surrounds the nucleus.
B- cell membrane -outer boundary of the cell, allows materials to move in and out of the cell,
it is a selectively permeable membrane,
C- cytoplasm - gel-like material inside the cell membrane
D. endoplasmic reticulum -moves material around in the cell.
(ER)
E. ribosomes - make proteins and carry messages.
F. golgi bodies - the packaging organelle.
G. mitochondria - breaks down food molecules and releases energy.
H. lysosomes - digest wastes and worn-out cell parts, cleans the cell
I. vacuole - storage area in the cell, larger in a plant cell
O. fat cells - stores energy, keeps us warm (only in the animal cell)
K. chloroplasts - contain a chemical called chlorophyll which absorbs the sun’s energy,
makes food for the plant and makes the plant green
J. cell wall - made of cellulose, rigid and tough, outer boundary of a plant cell,
supports the plant and gives the plant cell its shape.
