Epistasis: "To Stand Upon" - An
Override Gene
Multiple Genes – Polygenic Inheritance
A single trait can be produced by a combination of many
genes.
Polygenic from the Greek words polys, meaning “many” and
genos  meaning “kind”.
Polygenic inheritance is the inheritance pattern of a trait that
is  controlled by two or more genes.
The genes may be on the same chromosome or on different
ones.
Each gene may have two or more alleles.
Height in humans is an example of polygenic inheritance
Four genes contribute to height. Each gene has two alleles
that  contribute to the trait.
When heights of the offspring are graphed; a bell shaped
distribution  curve is formed.
 Intermediate heights occur most often.
*Pigment is also a polygenic trait in humans
