toasetofinstructionsthattellthecellwhattomake,forexample,aspecifictype
ofprotein.SpecificsegmentsofDNAarecalledgenes.Thesegenesare
responsibleforsomeofthetraitsyoucaninheritfromyourparents.Anexample
isthebrown-eyedgene.Thisisaspecificproteinthat’smadeusingthe
instructionsfromDNA.Ifthisproteindoesn’tgetmade(becauseyoudon’thave

modification,wheretheycouldpotentiallystopgeneticdiseasesfromoccurring,
orfixthembeforebirth.AnotherexampleofageneticdiseaseisCysticFibrosis.
Thisdiseasecausesseverebreathingdifficulties,asaveryimportantprotein
can’tbemadedueaDNAmutation.Hopefully,atsomepointinthefuture,
doctorswillhavecreatedcuresforgeneticallyinheriteddiseases.
