Frequently Asked Questions.
Below you will find a list of questions that are often asked. If your question is not
among them, we will be happy to answer it in person then.
1
WHAT DOES MY DNA DO, EXACTLY?
DNA can be regarded as a recipe for the substances that our body creates. At InsightYou, we are
predominantly interested in the DNA that contributes to substances that influence our brain cells. Variations
in DNA mean, for instance, that a certain type of brain cell can be more (or less) active than another. Thus
DNA plays a role in our behaviour.
2
CAN I INFLUENCE MY DNA?
You cannot influence your DNA. The results of a DNA analysis will always be the same. This does not mean
that you never change, as your life experiences also determine to a large extent how you develop.
3
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GENE AND DNA?
When we speak of ‘DNA’, we mean all the DNA material present in our bodies. When we speak of a gene,
however, we are only talking about a small part of our DNA with a specific function, for instance to instruct the
brain to make a certain substance.
4
IS THERE A FUNCTION-SPECIFIC GENE?
There is no specific gene that boosts talents in the field of e.g. Sales or Leadership. Both qualities are
composed of several elements. It is therefore too complex to explain such qualities on the basis of one gene.
Furthermore there is no direct relationship between a particular gene and behaviour: several genes
collaborate to influence several types of behaviour.
5
DOES A GENE DETERMINE WHO I AM?
No. People (can) change. This means that the responsibility for who you are and who you become lies
completely with you. Your genes are only the starting point of your development as a person. Your
environment, professional life phase and life experiences contribute to your development.
6
CAN MY DNA PREDICT HOW GOOD I AM?
No. DNA alone does not have any predictive value. In order to gain insight into who you are, your life
experiences must also be taken into account in the analysis. The DNA analysis can be regarded as a baseline
measurement: where you are now. It is then up to you to take the most suitable route to reach your future
goals.

Frequently Asked Questions.
Below you will find a list of questions that are often asked. If your question is not
among them, we will be happy to answer it in person then.
7
DO YOU ALSO LOOK AT HEALTH CONDITIONS?
No. The law does not permit InsightYou to analyse your DNA on the basis of health. In order to ensure that
this is absolutely clear, we have developed a specific DNA test that only analyses the DNA that is relevant to
the InsightYou profile. We only analyse a small part of your DNA, and in any case nothing that is related to
your physical health conditions.
8
CAN YOU SEE IF I AM PREGNANT?
No. DNA says something about the past, not about the present. We cannot see from your DNA whether you
are pregnant of whether you have any physical problems.
9
WHAT ABOUT MY PRIVACY?
The results of your DNA analysis will never be shared with anyone else. It is then up to you to determine
whether you want to share and discuss your results, and if so, with whom.
10
DO YOU GUARANTEE DATA SECURITY?
Your DNA data is anonymously stored under a 14-digit barcode, which we call your DNA key. This means that
your DNA data is not linked to your name, anywhere, online. This also means that there is no DNA key request
function on the website. If you lose your DNA key, you cannot request it online.
11
WHAT IF I LOSE MY DNA KEY?
Offline, we keep a record of the name and DNA key. On paper. This means that if you lose your DNA key, we
start an offline verification procedure and look up your DNA key manually. The record we keep only contains
names and DNA key numbers, no results. You can retrieve those with your DNA key from your secure
personal InsightYou profile.
