Chloroplast • Structure: • Contains thylakoids (flattened, membranous sacs) • Thylakoids contain chlorophyll (molecule that absorbs light energy for the cell) • Function: Use light energy to make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water = photosynthesis Evolution of Plastids and Mitochondria = Endosymbiosis
