Name: __________________________________ Class Period: _____________ DUE DATE: January 9th, 2015 Cell City Project Part II: Decide on your cell analogy. What can you compare a cell to? Cells are similar to a city in many ways as we have discussed. Now it’s time for you to choose your own cell analogy. Pick something to compare a cell to. You may choose a real place or a fictional place. Remember you have to be able to assign each organelle for a plant or animal cell a part within your own version of a “Cell City.” CREATIVITY and DESIGN will count as a large part of your grade. I will be comparing a PLANT / ANIMAL cell. (circle one) A cell is like a ________________________________________. Just a few examples of things you can compare it to: city, mall, park, school, fair, basketball court, Arendelle (Kingdom from Frozen), Hogsmeade Village (village where only magical beings live from Harry Potter), etc. Part III: Map On a plain piece of white paper you will sketch, color, and label your cell city. Each part will be labeled with its name and the name of the organelle that has a similar function. You must complete the chart attached to this and your map. This chart will help you create your analogies. Part IV: 3D Model Construct a 3D model of your city using the set of blueprints you have made and objects you collect to represent each building/structure/organelle. To start you will need a base to build your Cell City. -You may use you anything as the base for your city. A few ideas are: a shoebox, a disposable pan, the top or bottom of a holiday gift box, or even a piece of flat, sturdy cardboard. Next you will gather items to build each building/structure you have chosen to represent the organelles. -A few ideas of materials you can use: toothpicks, popsicle sticks, cardboard, clay, legos, little toys (dollar tree type) Then you will put everything together to create your version of a plant OR animal cell city. Lastly, you will label EACH part of your cell city on your CD model.
