Names: ___________________ Class: _____ /30 Science 8 e-Workshop Assignment: The Cell For this assignment, you and a partner will be using iPad applications “apps” and online sources to learn about the cell. You will see 3-D representations and visual depictions of both the animal and plant cell, as well as a wide range of information regarding the functions of each of their organelles; the structures that make up cells. Section A: Looking at the Cells (24 Marks) The Animal Cell Part 1 – Correctly and clearly label the organelles of the animal cell. (4 marks) Label all of the following organelles: Nucleus, Mitochondrion, Lysosomes, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi Body (Golgi Apparatus), Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm, Vacuoles Part 2 – Using the organelles from the previous section, complete the chart of organelles and their respective functions. You will also need to add in a descriptor of your own ie. “This organelle acts like a …” Important Notice* Use your own words to describe the organelle functions, don’t just copy down what the apps say!! (8 marks) Name of Organelle Function Descriptor The Plant Cell Part 1 – Correctly and clearly label the organelles of the plant cell. (4 marks) Label all of the following organelles: Nucleus, Mitochondrion, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi Body (Golgi Apparatus), Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm, Vacuole, Chloroplasts, Cell Wall Part 2 – Using the organelles from the previous section, complete the chart of organelles and their respective functions. You will also need to add in a descriptor of your own ie. “This organelle acts like a …” Important Notice* Use your own words to describe the organelle functions, don’t just copy down what the apps say!! (8 marks) Name of Organelle Function Descriptor Section B: Analyzing the Information (6 Marks) 1. Compare and contrast the plant and animal cells. – What makes a plant cell different from an animal cell? What organelles does one have, that the other does not? What makes a plant cell similar to an animal cell? (2 marks) 2. List two online sites you and your partner used during this e-Workshop to gather information on the cells and why you felt they were useful. (2 marks) 1 2 3. List two YouTube instructional Videos you and your partner used during this e-Workshop to gather information on the cells and why you felt they were useful. (2 marks) 1 2
