Grade 8 Science - Cell Analogy Your task is to demonstrate your vast knowledge of cell organelle function, structure and size. A Cellular Story Time to put on that creative writing hat! You need to show off your understanding of cell structure through story, a comic, a map, or any other ways you think would be best! Use the story as a vehicle to explain the physical structure of each organelle, how big they are compared to the other organelles and their function within a plant or animal cell. A few “off the top of my head” ideas: Your main character is adventuring inside a cell. Your main character is a doctor, trying to diagnose a patient with a cellular problem. Your main characters are organelles, having some sort of “self-help group” meeting. Organelles: Cell wall (plant cell only) Chloroplasts (plant cell only) Cell membrane Nucleus Cytoplasm Golgi apparatus Ribosome Endoplasmic Reticulum Vacuole Mitochondria Lysosome Marking – see back of sheet This assignment is due on ______________________________ This assignment will have 2% removed for each day that it is late past the deadline up to a maximum of 10% on/after the 5th day. Cell Analogy Organelles Analogy Function Clear Communication Excellent 4 All of the following organelles are included based on the cell they chose: 1.Nucleus 2.Mitochondria/ Chloroplasts 3.Golgi Apparatus 4.Ribosomes 5.Endoplasmic Reticulum 6.Lysosomes 7.Vacuoles 8.Cytoplasm 9. Cell Wall 10. Cell Membrane Good 3 Most of the following organelles are included based on the cell they chose: 1.Nucleus 2.Mitochondria/ Chloroplasts 3.Golgi Apparatus 4.Ribosomes 5.Endoplasmic Reticulum 6.Lysosomes 7.Vacuoles 8.Cytoplasm 9. Cell Wall 10. Cell Membrane All of the organelles are used correctly in a creative way. All of the organelles are used correctly. A few may be missing. The functions of all of the organelles are described accurately and with detail. Ideas and representations are clearly communicated and can be easily understood by others The functions of the organelles are described with some detail. The work looks mostly neat and professional. There is one (1) area that needs work or improvement. Fair 2 Some of the following organelles are included based on the cell they chose: 1.Nucleus 2.Mitochondria/ Chloroplasts 3.Golgi Apparatus 4.Ribosomes 5.Endoplasmic Reticulum 6.Lysosomes 7.Vacuoles 8.Cytoplasm or Spindle Fibers 9. Cell Wall 10. Cell Membrane Some of the comparisons are missing, the ones included were used correctly or incorrectly The functions of the organelles are described with little detail Poor 1 Few of the following organelles are included based on the cell they chose: 1.Nucleus 2.Mitochondria/ Chloroplasts 3.Golgi Apparatus 4.Ribosomes 5.Endoplasmic Reticulum 6.Lysosomes 7.Vacuoles 8.Cytoplasm 9. Cell Wall 10. Cell Membrane The work looks somewhat neat and professional. There are two (2) or (3) areas that needs work or improvement. The project needs work. There are four (4) or more areas that need work or improvement. Many of the comparisons are missing, the ones included were used correctly or incorrectly The functions of the organelles were described poorly Not Included 0 None of the Organelles were included Organelles were not connected in an analogy The functions were not listed The project was incomplete, the ideas were not communicated properly
