Cell Analogy Project
Instructions
Cells, the basic units of life, are often compared to a pizza parlor, a factory, or even an entire city. In
this project, you will need to make analogies to compare the function of the plant cell to the part and
functions of an entire city or another analogy of your choice. Choose one of the following (projects
must be done in color):
Level 3 (worth up to 75 points = C)



Create analogies between a plant cell’s parts and a city’s.
Must draw the Cell City and explain how each part of the city is like each part of a cell
Must be done on paper/poster that is 11” x 17” or greater
Level 4 (worth up to 85 points = B)




Create analogies between a plant cell’s parts and another idea of your choice
Example Ideas:
o Baseball Park
o Amusement Park
o Harry Potter
o Irvine Intermediate
Must draw the cell analogy and explain how each part compares to a cell
Must be done on paper/poster that is 11” x 17” or greater
Level 5 (worth up to 95 points = A)



Create analogies between a plant cell’s parts and another idea of your choice
Must be done on poster paper
Write a paragraph that explains how your cell analogy could go through one of these
processes (we have not covered these topics in class yet which means you need to research
what they are and apply it to your analogy)
o Differentiation OR Mitosis
+5 Points and your choice of Homework Pass or Otter Pop Pass for either presenting your
project to class OR creating a video explaining it
BONUS – (worth up to 10 extra points)


INSTEAD of creating a poster, make a 3D model of a cell analogy
Either have notes attached to your project explaining each analogy OR have a prop on your
3D model with a neatly written explanation of all of the parts of your model
**NOTE – Each level does NOT guarantee the max points for that level. Points will be
awarded on the quality of the product that is produced! It’s ok to research ideas, but
you may not copy exactly what you find on the internet or you will get a zero. Make
sure the idea is original and have fun with it!**

Cell Project Rough Draft
1. Draw a rough sketch of what your project will look like
2. Label each organelle on your rough draft (remember, in the final draft you must also EXPLAIN your analogies)
Your Project must have the following:
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Ribosomes
Golgi Body
Lysosomes
Large Central Vacuole
Chloroplasts
Cell Wall
Cell Membrane
