Cell City Analogy Assignment
Learning Objective – I can explain the structure and function of cells
Directions: You will create an analogy (comparison) for a cell using a city. Your analogy will include –
1. Drawing where you label each part of the city and it’s corresponding cell part (organelle) and a
2. Written description of each city part and how it is similar to its corresponding organelle. This should be
included on the back of the sheet and written in complete sentences.
Be sure to include each of the following organelles in your drawing, your labels, and your descriptions.
** PICK ONE **
Animal Cell
Cell membrane
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Ribosomes
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Golgi Body
Vacuole
Chromosome
Cytoplasm
Plant Cell
Cell Wall

Mitochondria
Ribosomes
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Golgi Body
Vacuole
Chromosome
Chloroplast
Draw your cell city on a blank piece of white paper. The cell should take up the entire front of the page and each part of
the city should be labeled with the city part and the cell part. Your drawing should be full of color. Make sure that you
give your city an interesting name!
Example:
The town hall represents the Nucleus
The power company represents
the mitochondria
We have created a check list to help make sure you include all the required information. Check each box when you
complete the requirement:
