Title of teaching module: Cellular and Developmental Biology Description of teaching module (teaching program): The Cell and Developmental Biology course is designed to introduce the pharmacy students to understand how interactions among molecules, macromolecules, and macromolecular machines give rise to living cells. The course focuses on the regulation of specialized cells function, and how complex interactions between cells guide normal development, including the creation and maintenance of tissues and organs during early developmental stages. The course also includes basic cell and molecular biology aspects to understand the treatment of human disease as well as new biotechnology applications . CELL BIOLOGY -History of Cell Biology -Chemical Foundations, the cellular building blocks: Protein, Lipid, Sugars and Nucleic acid Structure and Function -Techniques in Cell Biology -Biomembrane Structure -Transmembrane Transport of Ions and Small Molecules -The Cytoskeleton and the Cell Organization and Movement: Microtubules, Intermediate Filaments and Microfilaments. Vesicular Traffic, Secretion, and Endocytosis -The nucleus: Genes, Genomics, and Chromosome; Transcriptional Control of Gene Expression -The endoplasmic reticulum: the ribosomes and the protein synthesis -The mitochondria: Introduction to bioenergetics -The Eukaryotic Cell Cycle INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN REPRODUCTION -The anatomy of human male and female reproductive systems -The spermatozoa differentiation -The oocyte differentiation -The menstrual cycle regulation -Fertilization -Early stages of development including the implantation and placenta formation
