I. Geographic features of Italy
• Not broken up into small isolated villages
• Mountains did not prevent traveling to
different parts
• Rome and most of central Italy were ruled by
the Etruscans

- 300 senates from the patricians class
- senators elect 2 consuls, dictator in the event
of war
- tribunes- elected officials representing the
plebeians

A. Powerful Army
• Roman Army- citizen soldiers who had to
serve in the army
B. Rome treated the conquered people with
justice. The people in conquered territory had
to pay tax and provide supply to Roman
soldiers in return, they were allowed to keep
their money, customs, and local gov’t
