Cell Diversity Compare and Contrast Worksheet
Instructions: Using a biology textbook, answer the following questions to help you
understand the diversity of structures and functions that different cells exhibit.
1. Define “prokaryotic cell”, and describe some properties of organisms that have
prokaryotic cells.
2. Define “eukaryotic cell”, and describe some properties of organisms that have
eukaryotic cells.
3. Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells using the Venn Diagram
below.

4. Describe “cholorplasts”, draw one, explain what they do, and identify some types
of organisms that possess chloroplasts.
5. Describe “mitochondria”, draw one, explain what they do, and identify some
types of organisms that possess mitochondria. MAKE SURE YOU DESCRIBE
ATP IN YOUR ANSWER, AND EXPLAIN HOW ATP RELATES TO
MITOCHONDRIA!
6. Using your knowledge of chloroplasts and mitochondria, explain why plants
would need both of these organelles.
7. Define “cytoskeleton” in a way that makes sense to you, and explain several
purposes cytoskeletons can serve for a cell.
8. Define “flagella” in a way that makes sense to you, and explain several purposes
flagella can serve for a cell.
9. Define “cilia” in a way that makes sense to you, and explain several purposes cilia
can serve for a cell.
