Emily Blanton Cellular Poetry- Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells BIO 135 I'm the prokaryotic cell For simple jobs I have a knack I still house DNA But a nucleus I do lack I'm the eukaryotic cell I am much more complex I'm larger and I made up The first trees and the t-rex I am the original Creator of all cells My structure is simple No whistles or bells My organelles are abundant Mitochondria, ER-smooth and rough I make proteins and ATP Until I have enough I have been hanging around Earth For 3.8 billion years plus I don't have mitochondria Or a golgi apparatus My nucleus at my center To keep the DNA protected I've multiplied through the years From being naturally selected I do have ribosomes To make my protein Only under the microscope Can they closely be seen I'm your plants and animals From the biggest to the least My simplest form Is in everyday yeast I'm mainly bacteria Like E. coli and such And my cytoplasm Isn’t filled with much My mitochondria and chloroplasts Have their own DNA Because we ate them years ago And they decided to stay But my jobs are important Just like the more advanced cells Even though I am smaller With no organelles We make up all living things Plants, protists and man We’re the reason you'll end And the reason you began
