3-D Cell Model Project
Date Assigned:____________
Date Due:________________
Total Points:___________
Objective: By making a 3-D model of a cell, the student will become aware of
the various organelles and structures that make up a plant or animal cell and
their functions.
Guidelines:
 You may choose to do either an animal or a plant cell. Plant cells have 1
more organelle than animal cells so I will give up to 5 extra credit points
to plant cell projects.
 Your cell must be 3 Dimensional (3-D) as shown in class. It must have a
front, back, and sides and is not just a piece of paper with items glued on
it.
 Use 3-D objects to represent all organelles. Organelles must be to scale.
 The size of your cell must be larger than the palm of your hand but
smaller than 1 square foot.
 Include a color-coded Key to identify the structures and their functions.
Be Unique and Creative:
Use any interesting materials you may have around your house that are
good representations of the cell organelles. For example, plastic wrap may
represent the cell membrane that surrounds the cell, or, a small AAA
battery may represent a mitochondria that produces energy for the cell.
Some potentially useful household items include:
buttons
aluminum foil
balls
beads
bowls
shoe boxes
waxed paper
tissue paper
tupperware
plastic wrap
old toys
nuts & bolts
paper clips
yarn
string
seeds/beans
Attached Checklist:
You will use the attached checklist as a rubric to see which organelles need to
be present in your model and included in your key.
