Immune System Performances:
Name __________________
Define the following terms associated with the immune system:
Macrophage
Inflammation
Interleukin
Antigen
Helper T cells
Viruses
Suppressor T cells
Bacteria
Killer T cells
Lysosomes
Memory T and B cells
Specific immunity
Antibody
Nonspecific immunity
B cell growth factor
Natural killer cells
Leukocytes
Vaccine
Lymphokines
1. In your group, read your specific case study.
2. Create a diagram or map that shows the interaction between the invading antigen and the immune
system. The diagrams of different groups may be similar, but there are variations in the type antigen
causing the reaction, mode of entry, transmission, and so on.
3. Adapt your scenario into a script and assign individuals to play different parts.
4. Produce name tags, masks, or costumes.
5. Perform!
Discussion Questions:
1. Discuss some of the ways microbes evade the body's immune system.
2. Distinguish between antigen and antibody. Then explain how antibodies and macrophages work together
during an antigen-antibody reaction.
3. Differentiate between the functions of T cells and B cells.
4. Distinguish between viruses and bacteria. Explain the similarities and differences in the way they affect
the immune system.
5. Discuss how the immune response contributes to homeostasis.
6. Do you think mass inoculation is worth the risk of the few who die each year as a result of receiving a
vaccination?
