• Cognitive Dissonance: Relief From
Tension –when attitudes & actions are opposed,
we experience tension.
– Cognitive dissonance theory
we act to reduce the discomfort (dissonance)
we feel when 2 of our thoughts (cognitions) are
inconsistent. EX: when our awareness of our attitudes &
of our actions clash, we can reduce the resulting
dissonance by changing our attitudes.
–“Attitudes follow behavior”- we can not
