The Cell Cycle: Interphase,
Mitosis and Cytokinesis
Animal Cell
Stages of the Cell Cycle: Low
Power (100x)

Do NOT observe
and draw you’re
the cells under
scanning power or
low power. As you
can clearly see, it
is too difficult to
make out the
different phases of
mitosis under low
power

Even though you will not be
observing any of the slides under
scanning power and low power, you
still need to find and focus each
mitotic phase using low power.
Stages of the Cell Cycle: High
Power (400x)

As you can clearly
see, it is much
easier to tell the
different phases of
mitosis from one
another under high
power. Draw all
your pictures under
high power.
Interphase (400x)

The green arrows
are pointing to
cells in Interphase.
Since Interphase is
the longest phase
of the cell cycle,
most of the cells
you observe will be
in Interphase
Prophase (400x)

The green arrows
are pointing at
cells in Prophase.
The dark structures
are chromosomes.
Metaphase (400x)

The Green arrow is
pointing a cell in
Metaphase. Notice
how all of the
chromosomes are
lined up across the
middle of the cell.
Anaphase (1000x)

The green arrow is
pointing at a cell
during Anaphase.
Telophase (1000x)

The green arrow is
pointing a cell in
Telophase and it is
about to begin
Cytokinesis.
Notice how the
cytoplasm is about
to split in two.
