Cell Story Book Project due January 14, 2010
Imagine that you work for the Shaps Book Company. Your editor wants you to develop
a children’s book about cells and their parts. The book should be something that a 2nd-4th
grader would be able to understand. The editor gives you a list of the book
requirements.
The book needs to include:
 The two different types of cells (animal and plant)
 The different parts of the cells (cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, mitochondria,
lysosomes, ribosomes, golgi bodies, endoplasmic reticulum, cytoplasm,
chloroplasts, and vacuoles.)
 The functions of these parts
 A well designed front and back cover.
 A catchy name that describes the story.
 A theme targeted for 2nd-4th graders.
 An About the Author section on the back cover
Your book can be one of the many types that interest young children. Some ideas
for book types include:
 Comic Book
 Pop-Up
 Choose your ending book
 Coloring book
 Dr. Seuss type rhyming book
 Activity-Puzzle book
 Other types of books are acceptable, just check with Ms. Shapiro
The project will count as 65 points toward your second quarter grade. Your grade
will be determined as follows:
 Overall appearance
15 points
 All major organelles clearly mentioned
45 points
(with the correct information)
 Creativity
5 points
