Cells
All living things are made of cells
Cells have many different parts and
each part has a specific purpose
Cell membrane – gives the cell shape.
It is porous and allows molecules to
pass in and out of the cell
Nucleus – controls what goes
on in the cell
Cytoplasm – a jelly-like material, made
up mostly of water – supports the
“guts” of the cell
Vacuoles – stores the cell’s food, water,
minerals, and waste
Note that the plant cell usually only has one large vacuole, while
the animal cell has many smaller vacuoles
Mitochondria – “The powerhouse of
the cell” - produces the energy the
cell needs to survive
Brainpop
The plant cells have two parts that
animal cells do not have
Living things grow because their cells
multiply. This process is called mitosis.

The smallest living things in the world
are only one cell

one celled creatures
