Group members: Period: Cell Factory Project Imagine the cell to be a factory such as one that makes “running shoes”. There must be a head office (nucleus) that has blueprints (chromosomes) etc… Using your cell chart and the following list of organelles, illustrate a factory within your lab group, labeling each part. This is worth 2 lab grades!!!! Be creative and have fun learning the functions of organelles!!! Your factory should have a key describing the area of your factory and how it is similar to an organelle in the cell. List of organelles: Nucleus Chromosomes Mitochondria Endoplasmic reticulum Nuclear envelope Vacuoles Ribosomes Golgi apparatus Lysosomes Cell membrane Cytoplasm Cell Wall 1. To get started, first decide what your factory will produce 2. Discuss the areas of your factory and how their function relates to the organelles of a cell. 3. Make a key for your factory 4. Plan your poster 5. Draw your factory on the poster board. Please tape or glue the Cell Factory Project Rubric and your key to the back of your poster board. Points will be deducted if these items are not on the back of your poster! *** If you would like to make your comparison with something other than a factory (i.e. bakery, classroom, sports team, etc), please get permission from Mrs. Hiler first! *** Cell Factory Project Rubric Group Members: _______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ Key (22 points) - taped to the BACK of the poster! 1 point for each organelle, function, and factory “organelle” _____Nucleus _____Chromosomes _____Mitochondria _____Endoplasmic reticulum _____Nuclear envelope _____Vacuoles _____Ribosomes _____Golgi apparatus _____Lysosomes (if animal cell) _____Cell membrane _____Cytoplasm _____Cell wall (if plant cell) Factory “organelle” drawing (66 points) Each organelle is worth 6 points. Draw each factory “organelle” _____Nucleus _____Chromosomes _____Mitochondria _____Endoplasmic reticulum _____Nuclear envelope _____Vacuoles _____Ribosomes _____Golgi apparatus _____Lysosomes _____Cell membrane _____Cytoplasm _____Cell wall _____Factory title (2 points) Title should describe your cell factory _____Color/ Pen (5 points) Factory should be colored and everything labeled in ink! _____Rubric & Key (5 points) _______Neatness/Creativity (Maximum 5 points) Highest grade could be a 105! Grand total: To help you get organized, fill in this chart. Mrs. Hiler MUST initial it before you construct your “factory”.
