Parts Wanted: Advertisement for Cells’ Organelles
Teacher Notes
Materials:
 Help Wanted Advertisements (about 75)
 15 White Envelopes
 1sheet of paper per group
 List of 10 organelles (to cut up and have the class draw out of a hat)
 Colored pencils, markers, etc.
Procedures:
1. Place 5 help wanted ads in an envelope.
2. Have students get into groups of 2.
3. Hand out envelopes (filled with help wanted ads) to each pair of students.
4. Tell students to study the 5 pieces of paper and list everything they have in
common. (10 minutes)
5. Have a discussion about the items that are on each groups list. Items should
include: list of qualifications, list of responsibilities, list of benefits, most start
with a question, contact information and may include such things as borders, in
English, in black and white, etc.
6. Tell students that they will now combine and apply their knowledge of the cell
parts and their newly gained knowledge of help wanted ads. They will create a
parts wanted ad for a cell that is looking for a specific organelles. One ad per part
(there are 10).
a. Example: “Looking for a great opportunity to lead? Do you enjoy
making decisions for others? Is guidance your strong point? If so, we are
seeking to fill a managerial position. We are in need of a control center
for a cell. Must be able to operate a cell. Should have solid experience
reading and decoding DNA. Should exhibit strong leadership skills.
Benefits include: placement in low-stress arm cells, long life
guaranteed….you don’t die; you just divide and multiply! If interested

7. Do not directly list the organelle. The class will guess which organelle you are
talking about.
CELLS! HELP WANTED!
You will now combine and apply their knowledge of the cell parts and
your newly gained knowledge of help wanted ads. You and a partner will
create a parts wanted ad for a cell that is looking for a specific organelles.
Example:
Looking for a great opportunity to lead?
Do you enjoy making decisions for others?
Is guidance your strong point?
If so, we are seeking to fill a managerial position.
We are in need of a control center for a cell.
Must be able to operate a cell. Should have
