Genetic Linkage
Review:
Allele pairs separate
independently during the
formation of gametes.
Autosomal Gene Linkage
Linked genes are pairs or groups of genes
which are inherited together, carried on
the same chromosome (usually close
together)
Examples of Linked Genes
Linked genetic traits are those that exist together on the
same chromosome. Because genetic information is
passed on in larger “clumps” of DNA rather than gene by
gene, many traits end up being grouped, or linked.
Linkage is seen throughout the animal kingdom and in all
other organisms as well. Humans pose an especially
visible example since we are so used to noticing each
others’ features.
