Job Description Job title: Marketing & Communications Officer Salary: £24,000 p.a (Level 3) Hours: 35 hours per week Type of contract: Permanent Location: Flexible / Worthing Reporting to: Head of Marketing, Communications and Engagement Overall purpose of role: To design, develop and deliver effective marketing activities and campaigns to support the strategic aims and objectives of Independent Lives, through a variety of channels, including promotion of events, publications, services, and generating effective media and social media coverage. Overview The Marketing and Communications Officer will be a member of the new Marketing Communications and Engagement team at Independent Lives, a fast-growing user-led disability charity providing a range of support services to disabled people. The overall purpose of the role is develop and deliver effective engagement programmes, activities and campaigns, with disabled people, commissioners and key stakeholders, to support the overall organisational objectives of Independent Lives; and to ensure the effective representation of disabled people and their views and interests with policymakers, influencers, service providers and commissioners within social care and health environments. You will work closely with the Head of Marketing Communications and Engagement and with the Campaigns Officer, Communications and Engagement Officer, the Communications Officers, and Communications Assistant in order to support our business development, service delivery and strategic and operational development and direction. The Marketing Communications and Engagement team comprises approximately 6 FTEs covering marcomms, publications, events, campaigns, social media, promotions, PR, stakeholder and customer engagement and other activities. Design and Layout 2.1 2.2 3 To work with the Head of Marketing Communications and Engagement to identify, plan, develop and deliver key local, regional and national campaigns to support Independent Lives’ overall objectives and to ensure that disabled people’s views are expressed on a local and national basis to influence decisions. To support marketing activity for new and existing services and products across the organisation. To work with the Engagement Officer to analyse and use engagement data to support decision making within the team and the organisation. To set up and run conferences, events, seminars etc. as required. To plan and brief in campaign marketing products and materials, including reports, publications, leaflets, posters etc. etc. To ensure that all campaigns activity supports the organisation’s brand, marketing and communications ethos and key messages. To represent and promote Independent Lives externally to a wide range of audiences, to maintain and enhance its reputation and advance its aims. To monitor quality and achieve excellence at all times. To work with the communications officers to produce content, design, layout, production (including print and social media) of marketing and promotions leaflets, publications and other collateral To support effective use and development of the Independent Lives website as a campaigns and communications tool. To work within service quality frameworks and systems, driven by customer need and meeting customer requirements, To provide guidance on external, policy and media related issues, where necessary. Person Specification Experience Essential Desirable Experience of working on effective campaigns targeted at specific audiences and the general public Experience of managing and monitoring campaign budgets or demonstrable understanding of the key processes of budget management Experience of assisting on managing and delivering successful events for external audiences Experience of setting up, managing and delivering successful events for external audiences Experience of producing campaigns/marketing publications, including copywriting, design, layout and managing print and distribution schedules Experience of working in a voluntary sector environment and/or in health, social or social care policy Marketing & Communications Officer Job Description – February 2016 Page | 3 Experience of setting up and using a variety of communications tools and channels, including websites and social media to support organisational objectives Experience of involving and empowering people who use services in service development and review Experience of customer/user engagement processes and activities Qualifications, Education & Training Essential Desirable Evidence of continuing professional A recognised qualification in a relevant field development in a campaigning, marketing or at graduate or equivalent level, e.g. communications role marketing, PR, communications. Skills, Knowledge and Aptitudes Essential Desirable Excellent writing and other communication skills, using plain English. Attention to clarity and detail of communications, including proof reading. Maintaining accurate documentation. Excellent collaborative skills, able to quickly establish effective internal and external relationships with staff, services users and stakeholders across different services and functions to achieve results. Strong understanding of the social model of disability and willing to promote its ethos and principles. Ability to align values to behaviours to engender a culture of support, encouragement, engagement and empowerment for staff and service users Experience/knowledge of Craft CMS (Content Management System) Good working knowledge of using a CMS to upload content to a simple website. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop Knowledge of mobile technologies in campaigning/communications settings Marketing & Communications Officer Job Description – February 2016 Page | 4 Proficient in managing and using CRM databases to support reporting, plans and activities Experience of using Microsoft Outlook CRM Proficient in use of MS Office 2007 or later particularly Excel, Word, and Power point – and the use of web based applications and email. Results-oriented, able to manage time, projects and priorities effectively with a clear focus on setting and achieving high quality outcomes. Financial aptitude and understanding of the processes involved in setting and managing campaign budgets Resilient and able to cope with a demanding workload in a developing organisation Other Essential Desirable Flexibility to work extended hours including evenings and weekends on occasions when required.
