Purpose of the Role Rich Mix is an independent charity and contemporary arts centre based in the exciting and vibrant heart of Shoreditch in East London. Since our formation in 2006, Rich Mix has been at the forefront of the creative development of the area and hosts more than 750 events every year ranging from cinema to live music, community projects to exhibitions. Rich Mix is also home to more than 20 creative businesses and plays an important role in connecting diverse local talent with national and international partners and opportunities. We’re a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England. The Head of Marketing and Sales is a key member of the Rich Mix leadership team with responsibility for the planning, coordination, management and further development and implementation of our marketing and communications strategy, as well as leading on building profile, awareness and new audiences, and driving and delivering sales targets across the public 1 programme and hires. The Head of Marketing and Sales is also responsible for managing both the marketing and box office teams and for contributing to the leadership and development of the organisation. Key Objectives • Set, lead and deliver the marketing and sales strategy across all areas of the public programme and hires, taking lead responsibility for effective delivery against targets and budgets. • Lead in use of the Spektrix box office system as an organisation-wide tool, to maximise income generation, audience development and data capture and analysis. Use Artifax to support planning, management and operational issues. • Deliver effective and imaginative marketing and sales campaigns to sell tickets, generate revenues and raise awareness of the destination, its programme and activities, based on agreed strategies and audience understanding, and according to business planning for Rich Mix. • Lead and manage the Marketing and Box Office teams, working alongside the programme/activity leads to ensure that sales targets are met across cinemas, arts and hires areas • Build the brand and profile of Rich Mix in all representations and marketing media, and lead on establishing appropriate partnerships and collaborations. • Contribute to the overall leadership, development and management of Rich Mix as part of the senior leadership team Strategic Planning Further develop Rich Mix’s marketing and sales strategy: • • • • • • • Update the Audience Development Plan for the venue as whole with specific plans for targeting and engaging new audiences across all activity areas (cinemas, arts programming, hires). Use Spektrix to create a data / market research strategy which informs decisions around pricing, programming, brand and audience development. Further develop a pricing strategy and plan to target key audience segments. Develop Rich Mix’s brand, identity and regional and national positioning across the cultural and creative sectors. Create and implement a plan to maximise the potential of digital to support programme reach, sales, brand awareness and improve the customer journey. Create and implement a plan to maximise the opportunity of building revenues and loyalty through a new membership offer. Plan and manage the department’s annual budget. Marketing, Press, PR and Sales Campaigns Lead the marketing team to devise and deliver campaigns which increase and diversify public audiences, maximise box office and hire income and increase visibility and brand awareness. 2 • • • • • • Create effective and imaginative marketing campaigns which maximise ticket sales through targeting both current and prospective audiences, developing promotional opportunities in print and online, forming marketing and media partnerships and managing advertising and investment budgets to create a strong return on investment. Oversee the planning, scheduling, production and distribution of marketing materials in-print and online ensuring deadlines are met, copywriting, artistic and agency liaison, as well as managing relationships with printers, designers and mailing houses. Develop and manage the Press and PR strategy including managing PR consultants, devising PR campaigns, writing press releases, handling press requests and devising and organising season launches. Liaise with partners, promoters, companies and artists to support their marketing initiatives, providing advice and planning support where appropriate. Evaluate and monitor campaigns in print and on-line, as well as, ensuring box office and sales reports are used to inform future strategy and campaigns. Conduct regular market research and provide regular customer feedback using the results to inform planning. Communications • Manage and develop Rich Mix’s varied communication channels, platforms, services and products and ensure a consistent house style and appropriately targeted messaging • • • • • • Lead on digital strategies for communication and marketing, harnessing existing and emerging technologies for communication and sales purposes including the web, social media, online and campaign tools Lead and manage the development of a Brand Strategy and refresh for Rich Mix and ensure overall continuity of brand consistency and image Measure the effectiveness of communications messages and channels on an ongoing basis and ensure there are mechanisms in place for providing feedback. Oversee the website, its content and use of e-marketing strategies to support campaigns. Represent Rich Mix with external stakeholders and the wider creative sector, building constructive relationships to further the work and business potential of the organistion. Provide reports, project plans, budgets and other papers as required for the Board, funders, partners, potential sponsors and the Rich Mix Leadership Team. Leadership, Management and Supervision • Manage the Marketing and Sales Team. • Ensure training and professional development planning is in place for the Marketing and Sales Team and monitor staff performance through annual performance appraisals. • Work with the Chief Executive to ensure ongoing, year round training for all staff. • Contribute to organisation development and planning as part of the Senior Leadership team. • Contribute to the customer service plan (led by the Visitor Services Manager) and other plans and initiatives to improve the visitor experience at Rich Mix. 3 • • Keep up to date on key policy and communication issues across the creative sector. Contribute to a positive work climate within the company, modelling behaviour as a champion of Rich Mix’s mission, vision and values and contributing to organisation development. Person Specification Knowledge and Experience • Proven track record in a similar/complementary strategic marketing environment, with minimum of three years’ experience. • Experience of campaign planning and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. • Experience of managing budgets, hitting sales targets, and maximising return on investment. • Experience and understanding of data analysis and evaluation to meet business needs. • A wide range of contacts and networks across the cultural and creative sectors. passionate about the arts and tuned-in to current trends and ideas across contemporary culture including cinema, music and the wider performing arts. • Some knowledge of box office systems and processes. • Good knowledge of how to harness the power of digital, especially through websites and social media.
