1. START literally means, "cell eating." the process by which certain white blood cells ingest foreign invaders. disease-causing agents such as viruses, bacteria, cancers, and toxins. A type of white blood cell that performs phagocytosis. These can play a part in innate immunity by surrounding, ingesting, & destroying bacteria & other foreign invaders. This immune response is tailored to act on a specific type of invader.
