05/02/2015 We are looking for PhD or MEng or MSc candidates for a thesis on a Breast cancer co-culture arrays for studying cell-cell cooperation in drug resistance Interdisciplinary | cell culture | microenvironment| high throughput| discovery The micro and nanobioengineering group at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, invites applicants for PhD or Master Engineering thesis on a project to develop breast cancer co-culture arrays. The arrays will comprise combinations of cell derived from breast cancer tumors and surrounding stromal tissues. Cell culture lines as well as patient derived cells will be used. In collaboration with Dr. Morag Park (McGill Cancer Centre) and Dr. Benjamin Haib-Kains, the coculture arrays will be used to study the interaction of various combinations of cell lines, and uncover the interplay between cancer cell and stromal cell genotypes and tissue microarchitecture in the resistance to common cancer drugs. The project involves enhancing a microscale platform for cellco-culture, imaging and quantifying cell proliferation and phenotype, implementing microfluidic drug delivery systems, and conducting the biological study with our collaborators. Major Activities: • Design and fabrication of a cell microarray using rapid prototyping and microfabrication. • Cell co-culture, cell spotting, microfluidics for cell patterning and drug delivery. • High content imaging with fluorescent and phase contrast imaging and quantification Assets: • Expertise in design design, rapid prototyping, microfabrication • Cell culture and cancer. • Fluorescence microscopy and automated imaging • Experience in working in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects Please send your application (cover letter, CV, references) by email with the subject “PhD/Meng/MSc for cancer co-culture arrays” or to: Dr. David Juncker Biomedical Engineering Dept.
