HSPA Practice – Slide 1 Define: Absolute value - Distance that a number is from zero on a number line Arithmetic sequence - List of numbers where the difference between consecutive numbers is the same Average - Sum of the numbers divided by how many numbers were added together Circle - Set (or locus) of all points equidistant from a given point the center Circumference - Distance around a circle Collinear points - Points that lie on the same line HSPA Practice – Slide 2 Define: Combination - A group of items chosen without regard to order Discount - An amount subtracted from the original price Dividend - The number being divided Divisor - The number doing the dividing Factors - Numbers that divide evenly into another number Integers - Signed whole numbers {…, −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3 …} Iterative - repeating HSPA Practice – Slide 3 Define: L.C.M. (least common multiple) - Divisible by two or more numbers (24 is the L.C.M. of 8 and 12) Mean - Average (see notes) Median - The middle of a set of numbers when listed in order (take the average if a tie) Mile - 5,280 ft. (see HSPA math reference sheet) Mode - Occurs the most in a set of numbers Permutation - A group of items chosen with regard to order Prime - Divisible only by itself and 1 HSPA Practice – Slide 4 Define: 𝑓𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 Probability - 𝑃 = 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 Proportion - Two equal ratios Range - Difference between the greatest and least numbers in a set Ratio - 𝑎 𝑏 where 𝑎 and 𝑏 have the same unit of measure Recursive - Each term is generated by repeating a math operation Ex. {2, 5, 8, 11, … } Sample space - List of all possible outcomes Terminating decimal - A decimal that ends Ex. 4.132 versus 6. 7 Quiz - HSPA Vocabulary Directions: Using your notes, precisely define the following terms on a separate sheet of paper. Combination L.C.M. (least common multiple) - Ratio Proportion Terminating decimal -
