Which is which?
 Global Warming
 Just to do with near-surface air temperature
 The consequences of this only
 Nothing else

What is climate change?
 (Sometimes referred to as Global Warming)
 Climate Change is the process by which human emissions
of Greenhouse Gases are believed to be causing changes in
the Earth’s climate system.
 Watch out for the difference!
Climate or Global
 Remember that Climate describes an area's longterm atmospheric conditions.
 Global climate change describes trends and
variation in Earth's climate,
 involving aspects such as
 Temperature
 precipitation, and
 storm frequency and intensity.
 People often use the term global warming
synonymously in casual conversation,
 but global warming refers specifically to an increase in
Earth's average surface temperature.

 Kyoto Protocol
 drafted in 1997 in
Kyoto, Japan, the
Kyoto Protocol
mandates signatory
nations, by the
period 2008-2012,
to reduce emissions
of six greenhouse
gases to levels
below those of
1990
